Viva Media has announced that it will publishing the latest instalment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series in North America early in the new year. For those interested in recent Russian history, nuclear disasters or just mutated zombie monsters then you may have played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Skies. Shadow of Chernobyl was the first in the series and takes place in the aftermath of a second explosion in the formerly recovering area of the Chernobyl disaster. The explosions left an “Exclusion Zone” filled with pockets of deadly energy, this zone grew over time and gradually poachers, also known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, entered it in order to retrieve radioactive artefacts to sell on the Black Market. In the first game you were a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R whose goal was to discover what exactly happened at the Chernobyl site.
In the third title in this series players take on the role of Alexander Degtyarev who must find out what happened to five military helicopters while being careful not to cross the various S.T.A.L.K.E.R. factions. Once again Call of Pripyat will use the winning combination of a first-person perspective and RPG gameplay to create an immersive post-atomic world. New locations to explore in this game include the City of Pripyat, the site of the Jupiter Factory and a secret military base. It’s up to the player to choose which quests they take on as they navigate their way through the nuclear wasteland as the freedom to explore and choose your own path is a big part of these games.
The game is set to launch in American on February 2nd, and in the UK on the 29th of January. The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is still a very good (and very scary) game which is worth checking out and still looks the business.
